A certified nurse midwife is a registered nurse with advanced training (Advanced Practice Nurse, 'APN') and is a licensed healthcare provider whose philosophy and focus is to support the health of women throught the normal process of pregnancy as well as provide routine and preventive gynecological care.  The midwife at Hampshire Obstetrical and Gynecological Associates work collaboratively with our physicians and nurse practitioners and have appointment hours at both our Amherst and Northampton offices.  A woman receiving pregnancy care with Hampshire Obstetrical and Gynecological Associates may choose to have her office visits provided by either the nurse midwife or the physicians.  Labor and delivery services are provided by our physicians.

A woman may also wish to visit out nurse midwife for gynecological concerns including preconception, sexually transmitted disease, birth control services, urinary problems, breast exams, menopausal symptoms, pelvic pain, and routine annual examination and pap smears.
